New Drivers or Driver Updates

Some driver manufacturers will tell you to update your PC drivers on a regular basis, which will keep them from slowing down or reaping havoc on the computer processes. Driver updates are not always necessary, however, especially if the old drivers aren't causing any problems yet. Before purchasing new programs from driver manufacturers, computer users should consider if a device on their PC has quit working or crashed the system even though they haven't changed anything. If video drivers are refusing to play video properly, for example, computer owners should simply reinstall their existing video drivers. When installing devices from older driver manufacturers on newer PC systems, though, they should look for driver updates. In a case such as where video drivers never really functioned properly, though, consumers may be better off experimenting with both old and new drivers.
When choosing driver updates over purchasing new drivers, the best method is probably to use the Windows XP drivers update feature, to ensure the new driver replaces the old one. Simply open the device manager in the Windows XP drivers update program, right-click the problematic device, and click on properties. Click the drivers tab, click the driver updates button, and follow the prompts. If the device still causes problems, delete it and then reinstall it, providing the new drivers at installation.
